You can earn a course certificate for most Courses. A Course Certificate is proof that you completed and passed the course.
In order to get a Course Certificate, you must:
- Complete Name Verification. (Some courses in Degree or MasterTrack programs require ID Verification, which includes submitting a photo and verified ID)
- Pass all required assessments in the course, or meet the course passing threshold for a cumulative graded course
- Pay the course certificate fee, or apply and be approved for Financial aid.
Pay for a Course Certificate
You can pay the Course Certificate fee when you enroll in the course. If you are looking at course materials for free using the audit option, you can pay to upgrade to the Certificate option any time.
Upgrade to a paid Course Certificate
If you take a course in audit mode, you can upgrade to a paid Certificate at any time during or after your audit.
If you pay for a Certificate in a course you’ve already taken, any grades you already earned will be saved, but you may need to complete more coursework that wasn’t available in the audit version.
To upgrade to a Certificate in a course you're already enrolled in:
- Open the course you want to pay for.
- Open the Grades tab.
- Open any assessment and click Upgrade.
Not all courses offer Certificates. If you can’t find the option to upgrade to a Certificate in a course, it may not be available.
Certificate deadlines for courses and Guided Projects
After you pay the fee for a course or Guided Project, you either have 180 days after you pay, or 180 days after the program start date (whichever is longer), to complete the program and earn a certificate.
After 180 days, your payment will expire, but all of your progress in the learning program will be saved. You can pay the fee again to finish the program and earn your certificate. The deadline for earning a certificate may be different if you're taking the course as part of a Specialisation or a Degree (for-credit) program.
